A beautiful day for a drive!
For example... today Michael and I went for a drive! It was a splendid day, sunny and high about 62°. We drove west and south, encircling the airport before heading back up and over to Far Horizons.
Well... so I was wanting to turn left so that I could get over to 22nd Street, and .. there was a left turn lane, so I took it. Duh. I ended up in a sort of driveway, with no easy way out. I wound around and ended up... LOL of all places.. at the MALL! Yeah... here it is, the 23rd of December, and I'm at the mall, driving around the parking lot trying to find my way out of there.
Eventually I did get us out of the mall lot and we enjoyed the rest of the drive. We had lunch at KFC and discovered that we were both pretty hungry!
We came back here, got Maddy, and then drove to Reid Park where we had a very pleasant walk along the path, which goes all the way around the huge block around Broadway, Alvernon, Randolph, and 22nd Street. We didn't walk all the way around the huge block though. That woulda been too long, even for us!
The Art Challenge is going great! See if you can guess which entries are mine! As of now, I have ... several! :Þ~

Rainy day in Paradise
Earlier today we put together little Christmas tree foil pans filled with Clementines and candies for some of the Village's managers. They were festive and cute, but... duh, I didn't get a picture.

Hiking around Tucson
Hiking is one thing that we've always enjoyed doing here, and we're doing what we can this year. On Tuesday the 5th, I was too sick to hike.
And on the 12th, Michael was too weak, having just completed a round of chemotherapy. But I went with the Hardy Hikers up to Bridal Wreath Falls. To get there, we parked at the trailhead at the foot of Speedway, east of town. I shot a few pics along the way.

On the 19th was the annual Donut Hike at Saguaro East. We got to the Mica View Picnic Area by hiking most of a mile from the East Broadway trailhead. Upon our arrival, elves had decorated the area in festive fashion, and there were boxes of donuts along with hot coffee for us hikers! What fun!

We've cancelled the Computer Club meeting for tomorrow, so we have some time to loaf.
It's been somewhat chilly here for this past week, with lows below freezing, and highs reaching just about 50. Today will be a bit warmer, about 60. It should be back to normal (68 or so) by Christmas!
I have a new Art Challenge underway! It's for the Holidays, and you can see it from this link. The entries are coming in and they're looking great. I'm happy!
Thanksgiving -- Catching up a little
Most of this vacation it seemed like we were either flying, getting ready to fly, or suffering jetlag! We were on four different Frontier flights, and I got photos of each of the animals we traveled with:

Thanksgiving family fun and feasting:

A rainy day in Indy:

What a wonderful trip we had! The Thanksgiving leg was full with love and family cheer. And whenever Aronoffs get together, there's always plenty of delicious food!
We flew to Indy, drove to Bloomington, and spent the time there with good friends. The first 3 days were with Suzanne and Mary Elizabeth, and again.. lots of good food and festive feasting were the order of the day. We had a really fun time with them, mostly relaxing, which is something we really needed.
We left there on Monday morning and, after some Dr. appointments, we went to Ann & Bob's. We had a fine time with them, between running around to appointments in Bloomington and Indy. We got to spend the last evening with Carla and Roy, too, with all of us dining together at Longhorn!

An outing
After we left there, we were starving for.. lupper! (That's what Michael and I do when it's too late for lunch and too early for supper!) We went to El Paso BBQ and stuffed ourselves with onion rings, a shared pulled pork BBQ sandwich, Cowboy beans, and then an apple walnut cobbler for dessert! Everything was delicious!
I've started a new Art Challenge but, as of this writing, my site's not up. Hopefully, by the time you read this, it'll be up again. Entries have been slow coming in, but I expect folks will get on the ball once they see what I'm going to post once my site's up again!

File Associations
If you right-click an image file, you will see a menu where you can choose to open the file, open with a particular program, print, and maybe some other things. In my computer, I had "Edit with Photoshop" as one of the choices. The problem was that when I chose that, my computer thought that I meant PS CS, instead of my current version, CS2!
Well, after some searching and playing around, I found the answer to this. You can, based upon the file type of any file, change the context menu (right-click) that you get:
1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.
2. Tools > Folder Options > File Types
3. Find an image file type. You'll have to do this with any files you want this to apply to.
4. If you see an Advanced button, click it. I didn't, so I first clicked Restore. Then you'll see Advanced. Click it.
5. You'll see a box that says "Edit File Type." Down under "Actions," these are the things that you'll see when you right-click the file. Get rid of ones you don't need. All my image files, for some reason, have "Edit with ImageReady," which is kinda silly. Click silly ones and then choose Remove.
6. To add one, click the New... button. Here you can add "Edit with..." whatever! Below there, you click Browse and find your application's .exe file. Hit OK and you're half done.
7. Now remember when you clicked Restore? You have to get your default program of choice back. Click Change in the File Types box.
8. Choose your program and click an X into the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box.
9. Click OK and celebrate!
Windy Day!
Michael is working through round 2 of his chemotherapy which he started on Tuesday evening. It's capsules that he has to take on an empty stomach, right before bed. He has a potent anti-nausea drug that he takes an hour before that.
Side effects are .. eh.. pretty minimal, I guess. He is pretty sleepy (napping right now, which is unusual in the middle of the day). He also can't taste things normally, which takes lots of the fun out of eating.
I've finally set up a Yahoo! group to handle the mailings for my Art Challenge. If you want to be on my Challenge mailing list, head over to the group's home page and join!
The welcome message I posted is dated August 14, 9:42 am. This was the last thing I did before I got the call about Michael's having to go to the hospital.

On the Road... to recovery
I'm feeling much better today, after a few days of feeling really horrible. I didn’t get onto my computer at all yesterday, because I was very sick. I contracted a bronchitis on our way back here to Tucson on Friday. By Sunday night, I was coughing a lot and gave myself asthma in the middle of the night. It was the worst attack ever, because I was wheezing very deeply and was really suffering air hunger. I couldn’t breathe in without a vocal sound coming out of me. This, of course, scared the hell out of me and I was yelling for Michael to help me, and all of this just made my condition worse.
We would have gone to the hospital, except that Michael couldn’t get his phone to dial the friend we would choose to take us there. Just as well, because he was able to help me by calming me down and telling me to breathe more slowly. I did this, managed to relax, and came out of it. We both lay there from 2:30 till 4:30, unable to sleep for fear I’d relapse. I actually was sitting up in the bed. Finally we went back to sleep and then yesterday went to the drugstore and got me an antibiotic. I am still weak and so we didn’t go for the Hiking Club hike today, darn it!

Thanksgiving in Denver
Happy Thanksgiving!
We flew to Denver (from Tucson) on Monday. Our flight went smoothly, our luggage was right there when we arrived, and they had a cute little Chevy rental compact waiting for us.
We're staying at the Hampton Inn on Ulster. Monday we just went walking around the area here, went to the grocery for bottled water and some snacks, supped at the neighboring Panera, and relaxed in our room.
Tuesday we went shopping again -- this time for pie supplies! This day we went over to Becca & Joel's where I baked two pies -- pumpkin and upside-down apple, in preparation for Thanksgiving. All went smoothly, as Becca keeps a very organized, uncluttered, well-stocked, and spotless kitchen.
Becca and Joel came home from work and we headed with them over to Michelle's, where we met with many more family members and feasted on delicious pot roast, carrots, and noodles with gravy.
Yesterday, we picked Becky up from Becca & Joel's and we went to the Park Square Mall for some power-shopping! We lunched at the Cheesecake Factory, where we got dismally slow service. Becky didn't get her sandwich at all till we were all finished eating. They ended up bringing her ice cream, but we all left there thinking that, while the food was good, it was the worst service ever.
Supper last night was at Becca & Joel's, where they fed us two different chili's, pulled smoked pork, salad, cake and apple pie. Everything was delicious and a good time was had by all!
So here we are on Thanksgiving. It's the first time that I've had a chance to get the computer out since we've been here.
Things to be thankful for? I have so many. I'm grateful for Michael, for his sweetness and generosity, and for all of the magical years we've enjoyed together. I'm grateful that he continues to feel good, and that we are still having fun.
I'm grateful for my family, their unconditional love, and for a year of good health, good visits, and many smiles. :)
I'm grateful for Michael's family, for how they count me as a member of the family, and for all the laughs we share.
I'm grateful for all of our wonderful friends and for the love and support we've gotten through this tough time.
I'm grateful for my online family -- for all my Community members who call myJanee.com home, for my Photoshop students, for my fellow myJanee Photoshop teachers, Joanne and John. And I'm grateful for the technology that keeps us together.
I'm grateful for my own good health, and the fact that I ultimately did get signed up for health insurance!
And I'm grateful for our pets, who keep loving us no matter what, who wake us up daily, who kiss our tears away, and who clean up the crumbs we drop onto the floor.

We're here!
Here's a brief rundown:
Monday we got parked here with no trouble. Our site is on the corner of Cuatro and Maricopa, and we have our own stop sign! If you look very closely in the top photo here, you can see those little bunnies we got in Joplin!
Michael called the cable guy immediately after we got the other utilities hooked up, and he came out right away. Chase from Cox got us all wired up, and we got our network online and working on Monday!
Tuesday the 14th was Hiking Club day! We went with the group to Saguaro East, where we went on a 4.75 mile hike with the No-Hurry Hikers. We saw beautiful flowers, plentiful and healthy cactus, and three jackrabbits!
Yesterday we went out for a sumptious feast at Chaffin's Family Restaurant on Broadway. Platters of delicious food, and most of it was gone before we left. I wonder if y'all would like to see pics of our food again?
Then we did laundry and dusted and vacuumed and brushed Maddy. Huge jobs, because we had 6 loads of scroungy clothes from all the travel, and Maddy's been shedding like a champ!
Last evening was Potluck night and we brought cinnamon pecans. They were pretty good, and all were consumed, but they were not the best ever. They didn't get crunchy! We really enjoyed getting together with all the gang and meeting some new people, too.
It's noon now and 77° here in Tucson!
