A change in our weather

We have had very unusual weather here! Starting last evening, it’s poured down rain here, and they got heavy snow in the mountains around here. There was lightning and thunder last evening along with heavy winds. Excitement! And then today there was some water in the washes!

This morning we had cereal and then did computer work till noon. I was working on my email inbox, getting it down to 50 items! I'm working toward getting it all caught up, and then keeping on top of it in the New Year. 10 is my goal.

Hiking the Pontatoc Ridge Trail

The cranberry relish was delish! I waited till it cooled before adding the celery and nuts. The dinner was a real feast, with tasty and beautiful food for all.

Today I went with ten other members of the Hiking Club to the Pontatoc Ridge Trail. It was 5.2 miles total, and a fine, challenging, and beautiful hike! We got to the trailhead by going to Skyline and then

After the hike, I came back here to find that Michael had done a load of laundry. He also investigated the Fitness Room here at the Village, spending some time on the stationary bike.

He and I had lunch, showered, and then went for his blood drawing. His numbers are still remaining pretty good at this point.

Then I drove him up to north Alvernon to show him Finger Rock and the trail where we had hiked. Good time.. good day!

Merry Christmas Eve! Today I walked to the Sunflower Market for a muffin and bearclaw! You know that it's going to be a good day when it starts like that!

Today I made cranberries for our Village Holiday Dinner tomorrow. I'm going to add celery and walnuts, but here's what it looked like when I was boiling the cranberries with the sugar-water:

In case the recipe turns out good, here's what I did:

Janee's Cranberry Relish

Boil for 5 mins, stirring occasionally:
2 C sugar
2 C water

Wash, pick through, and add
4 C cranberries

Boil 5 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Cranberries will pop!

Cool a bit and then pour into bowl and refrigerate.

Stir in
1C walnuts
1C chopped celery

A beautiful day for a drive!

One thing I've discovered: I make more mistakes now than I should! LOL! While my mistakes have, till now, been trivial stuff, it is enough to make me cautious about making big decisions.

For example... today Michael and I went for a drive! It was a splendid day, sunny and high about 62°. We drove west and south, encircling the airport before heading back up and over to Far Horizons.

Well... so I was wanting to turn left so that I could get over to 22nd Street, and .. there was a left turn lane, so I took it. Duh. I ended up in a sort of driveway, with no easy way out. I wound around and ended up... LOL of all places.. at the MALL! Yeah... here it is, the 23rd of December, and I'm at the mall, driving around the parking lot trying to find my way out of there.

Eventually I did get us out of the mall lot and we enjoyed the rest of the drive. We had lunch at KFC and discovered that we were both pretty hungry!

We came back here, got Maddy, and then drove to Reid Park where we had a very pleasant walk along the path, which goes all the way around the huge block around Broadway, Alvernon, Randolph, and 22nd Street. We didn't walk all the way around the huge block though. That woulda been too long, even for us!

The Art Challenge is going great! See if you can guess which entries are mine! As of now, I have ... several! :Þ~

Rainy day in Paradise

Today's weather is a reminder to us that we really are on Planet Earth. Today it's thickly cloudy, rainy, windy, and below 50°. We walked around Udall Park's "Gerbil Trail," and it was pretty miserable, but we did it!

Earlier today we put together little Christmas tree foil pans filled with Clementines and candies for some of the Village's managers. They were festive and cute, but... duh, I didn't get a picture.

Hiking around Tucson

We got back here to Tucson on Dec. 1, and that's when my bronchitis started. I am almost over it now, finally, though I do have some days that are better than others. I know; recovery is like that.

Hiking is one thing that we've always enjoyed doing here, and we're doing what we can this year. On Tuesday the 5th, I was too sick to hike.

And on the 12th, Michael was too weak, having just completed a round of chemotherapy. But I went with the Hardy Hikers up to Bridal Wreath Falls. To get there, we parked at the trailhead at the foot of Speedway, east of town. I shot a few pics along the way.

On the 19th was the annual Donut Hike at Saguaro East. We got to the Mica View Picnic Area by hiking most of a mile from the East Broadway trailhead. Upon our arrival, elves had decorated the area in festive fashion, and there were boxes of donuts along with hot coffee for us hikers! What fun!

We've cancelled the Computer Club meeting for tomorrow, so we have some time to loaf.

It's been somewhat chilly here for this past week, with lows below freezing, and highs reaching just about 50. Today will be a bit warmer, about 60. It should be back to normal (68 or so) by Christmas!

I have a new Art Challenge underway! It's for the Holidays, and you can see it from this link. The entries are coming in and they're looking great. I'm happy!

Thanksgiving -- Catching up a little

I have finally gotten our Thanksgiving trip pics ready for you to see! Now... I didn't take ENOUGH pics, of course. And I very stupidly took very few pics from the Indiana leg of things. But.. well, here's what I have.

Most of this vacation it seemed like we were either flying, getting ready to fly, or suffering jetlag! We were on four different Frontier flights, and I got photos of each of the animals we traveled with:

Thanksgiving family fun and feasting:

A rainy day in Indy:

What a wonderful trip we had! The Thanksgiving leg was full with love and family cheer. And whenever Aronoffs get together, there's always plenty of delicious food!

We flew to Indy, drove to Bloomington, and spent the time there with good friends. The first 3 days were with Suzanne and Mary Elizabeth, and again.. lots of good food and festive feasting were the order of the day. We had a really fun time with them, mostly relaxing, which is something we really needed.

We left there on Monday morning and, after some Dr. appointments, we went to Ann & Bob's. We had a fine time with them, between running around to appointments in Bloomington and Indy. We got to spend the last evening with Carla and Roy, too, with all of us dining together at Longhorn!

An outing

Today we went on an outing to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. What a fine day we had! We walked slowly, but surely, seeing a raptor free flight program, some nice cats, javelina babies, and many really fine plants. Michael was feeling pretty good, strong enough to walk around the park, and .. what a really great day!

After we left there, we were starving for.. lupper! (That's what Michael and I do when it's too late for lunch and too early for supper!) We went to El Paso BBQ and stuffed ourselves with onion rings, a shared pulled pork BBQ sandwich, Cowboy beans, and then an apple walnut cobbler for dessert! Everything was delicious!

I've started a new Art Challenge but, as of this writing, my site's not up. Hopefully, by the time you read this, it'll be up again. Entries have been slow coming in, but I expect folks will get on the ball once they see what I'm going to post once my site's up again!
