File Associations

I don't often talk in here about techie things, but ... here I am, about to talk about techie things! LOL!

If you right-click an image file, you will see a menu where you can choose to open the file, open with a particular program, print, and maybe some other things. In my computer, I had "Edit with Photoshop" as one of the choices. The problem was that when I chose that, my computer thought that I meant PS CS, instead of my current version, CS2!

Well, after some searching and playing around, I found the answer to this. You can, based upon the file type of any file, change the context menu (right-click) that you get:

1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.

2. Tools > Folder Options > File Types

3. Find an image file type. You'll have to do this with any files you want this to apply to.

4. If you see an Advanced button, click it. I didn't, so I first clicked Restore. Then you'll see Advanced. Click it.

5. You'll see a box that says "Edit File Type." Down under "Actions," these are the things that you'll see when you right-click the file. Get rid of ones you don't need. All my image files, for some reason, have "Edit with ImageReady," which is kinda silly. Click silly ones and then choose Remove.

6. To add one, click the New... button. Here you can add "Edit with..." whatever! Below there, you click Browse and find your application's .exe file. Hit OK and you're half done.

7. Now remember when you clicked Restore? You have to get your default program of choice back. Click Change in the File Types box.

8. Choose your program and click an X into the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box.

9. Click OK and celebrate!

  1. Hey, sis. You are so funny with your computer hints. They are great hints!

I hope you are feeling better and life is going good again. We were just talking about Christmas and how we are going to miss you and M.

Who is going to be our Claus if you are not here? It just will not seem the same, that's for sure.

Our Brudder will be here, so maybe I will plop a red and white hat on him and he can be Claus!

    Take care. Love always, Sis.
